Our Mission

"To empower and transform communities through unwavering faith, dedicated service, and genuine unity. Inspired by the enduring legacy of Elder Cleon Leoaunodis McCoy, Jr., we are committed to spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ, encouraging spiritual growth, and nurturing a culture of heartfelt worship and devotion. Guided by God's calling, we strive to equip and send forth laborers to make a positive impact in the world with love, compassion, and integrity, serving all with excellence and grace.

Our ministry extends throughout the Southern Maryland region, touching lives in Southern Prince George's County, Charles County, Saint Mary's County, and Calvert County. By actively ministering to the needs of these communities, we aim to bring hope, support, and spiritual enrichment to every individual we encounter."

The C.L. McCoy
Memorial District

Cleon Leoaunodis McCoy, Jr. was born on February 7, 1934, in West Pocket, North Carolina.

He first gave his life to the Lord in 1958 and later rededicated himself in 1981, answering God’s call once more. Always sensitive to the voice of the Holy Spirit, Cleon was drawn to a nearby Church of God in Christ. For months, he faithfully placed his tithes in the church mailbox without ever stepping inside. His quiet devotion was eventually discovered by Superintendent Frank White, who personally invited him to attend worship services. Soon after, Cleon became a member, Deacon, Minister, and Trustee Board member. Recognizing his Christ-centered character, Bishop White ordained him as an Elder in the Church of God in Christ.

Seeing Beyond
the Horizon by Faith

"And their seed shall be known among the Gentiles, and their offspring among the people: all that see them shall acknowledge them that they are the seed, which the LORD hath blessed." – Isaiah 61:9

More than twenty-five years ago, New Community COGIC began in the living room of our home, and today, this ministry has grown to multiple locations across Maryland. Looking around, I see that while some members have moved on to other ministries, we continue to flourish and expand!

The Importance of Community Building

Community building and engagement are essential elements for fostering a sense of belonging and collaboration among individuals within a group.

At its core, community building involves creating a shared identity and purpose, where members feel valued and connected to one another. This process often starts with identifying common interests, values, and goals among community members. By facilitating discussions, organizing events, and encouraging participation, leaders can nurture relationships and create an inclusive environment that strengthens the community fabric.

Effective engagement strategies are vital for maintaining interest and participation within a community. Using various communication channels, such as social media, newsletters, and in-person meetings, leaders can keep members informed about upcoming activities, share successes, and solicit feedback. Engaging community members in decision-making processes ensures that diverse perspectives are considered and empowers individuals to take ownership of their community. This not only increases member investment but also promotes accountability and collaboration, leading to lasting relationships and a vibrant community.
